  • As a senior leader, you will be responsible for hiring, managing, mentoring, and directing a growing team of designers and design leaders that work with internal cross-discipline research teams and external production studios to create non-linear, interactive stories, including:
    • Exploring new interaction paradigms in mobile, VUI, NUI, VR, and AR.
    • Core gameplay loops that can elicit emotion and fun while simultaneously delivering experiential stories
    • Creating new methods of engagement for participatory and experiential storytelling
    • Producing blueprints, scripts, and code to prototype innovative characters and worlds that respond dynamically, yet personally to users
  • Partnering with directors of Narrative, Engineering, Art and Production, you will share responsibility for establishing a portfolio strategy for the interactive endeavor
  • Adept at both project and people development, you will ensure premium, thoughtful, resonant motives and interactions across multiple projects while mentoring design leaders to operate through influence and our internal designers to hone their skill
  • You must be able to navigate within an ambiguous environment across high-performance development teams
  • You will be collaborating and building strong relationships across Digital Products, Digital and Social Media, Original Programming, and external studios to guide and direct the evolution of the best interactive and immersive experiences in the industry
  • You will be directing a range of design skills from user-centric UX design and research to gameplay, system, behavior, and level design in modern engines
  • You will be responsible for cross-pollinating design innovation between our internal R&D efforts and in-development 3rd party product to ensure HBO remains on the cutting edge of interactivity

  • 12+ years of work with creative software product development and a minimum of 4+ product releases
  • Bachelor’s degree in Design, Game Design, HCI, or closely related field
  • Hands-on design experience on a AAA+ quality game or equivalent
  • Deep understanding of UX design principles and methodologies as they relate to software development
  • Competency in existing and emerging interaction paradigms including touch, NUI, GUI, VR/AR, and IoT
  • Demonstrated ability to balance a creator’s narrative intent with engaging gameplay
  • Experience managing complex technical and creative initiatives, including people management & leadership
  • Deeply self-motivated and skilled at finding, motivating and creating leaders
  • Experience using real-time software engines to create engaging interactive experiences at both the micro, tactile, visceral fun level as well as the macro, meta, systems, multi-title level
  • Passion for game development
  • A strong portfolio demonstrating breadth and creativity across multiple domains of design
  • Expert-level knowledge of modern software development processes, from pre-production to maintenance
  • Highly effective communicator (both verbal and written) with the ability to partner, engage, and translate across technical and non-technical teams and executives
  • A high degree of comfort operating within modern game engines, such as Unreal, Unity, CryEngine, et al.
  • An ability to identify target personas and focus our experience craft toward engaging them in meaningful, compelling, and exhilarating ways
  • Ability to evaluate studios for their design and UX capabilities
  • Experience creating interactive moments that elicit emotional reactions that are relevant and meaningful to a storytellers world and story arc
  • Track record of successful liaison and relationships with AAA Video Game studios
  • Track record of successful liaison and relationships with Hollywood talent
  • Positive references from leaders in art, content, engineering, and business
  • Strong network of developers and vendors in the gaming ecosystem
